(80+), zoompte
RS: 背题库, 我喜欢考试时记下关键词,这样复苏的时候不至于忘词.
- 练习: 题库ynwac, zoompte , 萤火虫星际(针对最后难题 训练自己反应力)
RTS, DI: 无脑背模板, 流利度至上
写作
WE: 找到模板好好背, 一字不漏, 写作时不能语法错误. 10分钟考试,5分钟写完, 3分钟检查
练习:题库固定
SST: WE一样
Because my study plan started on August 28, but for completeness—and since most of the time was spent between August 28 and September 9—I’ll place my study journal here.
Since last year, I’ve been preparing for Canada’s immigration language exams. After one year, the journey has finally come to an end. In short, I was never an especially strong English student, so it really took me a lot of time. Overall, in terms of difficulty: IELTS > CELPIP > PTE Core.
Let me break it down slowly. IELTS General was what I first transitioned to from the Academic version, so its requirements were still very high in many aspects. CELPIP was the test I chose later—it felt much easier overall, but writing and speaking were always my weak points. These are the parts graded by human examiners. Writing felt unforgiving—you couldn’t really afford mistakes, and the topics weren’t fixed. Especially as more people started taking it, the question bank became unpredictable. Speaking was also tough—it’s the section where most people lose marks. The speaking exam is also very long, which means it’s easy to slip up.
Today, I want to focus on how to prepare for the PTE Core, where I eventually scored CLB 10 10 9 9.
Speaking
RA (Read Aloud): Whether it’s a single sentence or the full passage, a single sentence works best with a mix of stressed and unstressed words. Read it at a pace about 1.25× faster than the full passage. Pay attention to pronunciation—avoid slurring or mumbling. Speak loudly and clearly so the system records well.
- Practice: question banks from YNWAC, Duomo (80+), ZoomPTE.
RS (Repeat Sentence): Memorize the question bank. During the test, I like jotting down keywords so I don’t blank when repeating.
- Practice: YNWAC, ZoomPTE, Firefly Galaxy (to train reaction speed on the toughest sentences).
RTS, DI: Rely on templates. Fluency matters most.
Writing
WE (Write Essay): Memorize a good template word-for-word. Avoid grammar mistakes at all costs. The test lasts 10 minutes—spend 5 minutes writing, 3 minutes checking.
- Practice: fixed question banks.
SST: Same approach as WE.
SWT (Summarize Written Text): Copy exact sentences; just summarize concisely.
Reading
FIB (Fill in the Blanks): Just keep practicing.
- Practice: YNWAC.
RO (Re-order Paragraphs): Keep practicing. If unsure, look for pronoun references. For example, if a sentence has “it” or “the camera,” it usually refers to something mentioned earlier—so that paragraph should go before.
- Practice: YNWAC.
Listening
- WFD (Write from Dictation): Practice blind typing—get used to typing while listening. Learn to “test” words (about 5 per sentence). Most importantly, the listening section has fixed timing, so always save 6 minutes for WFD. Otherwise, you risk running out of time.
Afterword
At last, I’ve parted ways with English exams. Honestly, I took a lot of detours, partly because of my own laziness. Next, I hope to begin French studies while continuing my graduate research. And finally, may CN Dota 2 have a satisfying ending at TI14.
